Mills' Heroics Lift La Salle Over GW In A-10 Opener
Up 74-72 with 6.3 seconds left, the Explorers fumbled away an inbounds pass under their basket and into the hands of GW guard Joe McDonald. McDonald took one dribble and went up for the game-tying layup, but Sam Mills was ready for him. Mills took the charge and the Explorers proceeded to a 76-72 victory in their Atlantic 10 opener on Thursday evening at Tom Gola Arena.- published: 10 Jan 2014

Procession of Matsu (a Hsing Wu University student project)
Several of my students created this video for their Conversation English final exam project (first semester 2014). Teaching and learning strategies in my classes are project base and cooperative; that is, students learn by doing, and they learn by helping each other. It's a practical and fun way of learning both English and wholesome values.- published: 12 Feb 2014

Travel in Taipei City, by 3 Hsing Wu University Students
Three of my English Conversation students created this video documentary for their first semester final exam project at Hsing Wu University. Their names were Kevin Chen, Henry Chen, and Jason. Rather than simply memorizing and repeating vocabulary words for multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blanks tests, my students learn by doing, which is the natural way to learn. At the same time, they learn how to manage projects and gain an understanding of the world and gain useful knowledge from it. By discovering things for themselves, they can become their own best teachers.- published: 31 Jan 2014

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taipei, by 4 Hsing Wu University students
Four of my English Conversation students at Hsing Wu University created this video for their first semester final exam project. The students are Cindy Hong, Cid Huang, Hua Chen, and Una Chang. They were required to create a documentary video at least 15 minutes long, with at least 5 minutes of conversation. It's cooperative learning and project-based learning; that is, they help each other to learn by doing. As opposed to the memorize-regurgitate-and-forget form of "studying for multiple choice and fill-in-the-blanks tests, this is a natural form of learning, and lessons in vocabulary and project building are not soon forgotten.- published: 31 Jan 2014

Tour of Yingge, Taiwan, by three Hsing Wu University students
Three of my students at Hsing Wu University created this video as their English Conversation final exam project. I required them to create a documentary video at least 15 minutes long with at least five minutes of English dialogue spoken by the students themselves. The project involved several other requirements. English is their second language. Rather than have them memorize and repeat vocabulary words, my exams are project oriented, and they learn the vocabulary by having to use it naturally. The three students who created this video were Jessie, Judy, and Jessica in my Monday morning English Conversation class.- published: 30 Jan 2014

A Tour of Hsing Wu University (a student project)
Seven of my Conversation English students created this video as their final exam project (first semester 2014). The teaching and learning strategies in my classes are project based, scaffolded, and cooperative; that is, students learn by doing and by cooperating with, rather than competing with, each other, and under some degree of guidance from their instructor. This is a practical, fun, and natural way to learn both English and wholesome values.- published: 12 Feb 2014
